Socarrado,
Socarrado is an installation that transforms what was once lost into a space of encounter, reflection, and memory. Located within Parque Natural Sabinares del Arlanza–La Yecla, where a devastating wildfire swept through in 2022, Socarrado emerges as a quiet act of poetic resistance in a territory undergoing renewal.
Conceived as a meditation anchored in the landscape, the installation is shaped by its elements and in silent dialogue them. Crafted as a circular structure from the rescued burned incense junipers, the installation is centered around a dome-shaped space inspired by a Lobera, a traditional feature from the Castilian sheep-herding landscape used to protect the most vulnerable of the flock from predators.
Socarrado draws attention to the invisible and the vulnerable, speaking to both ecological loss and the erosion of truth in the digital age. It embodies a poignant critique of modern disconnection from truth and reality—a time when curated avatars eclipse authentic experience, creating voids easily exploited by digital predators; a time when humans believe they have outgrown their own nature.
By offering a refuge for stillness and reconnection, Socarrado invites visitors to be present, nurture authenticity, and restore their intrinsic bond with the land.
